Q: When was the Trail discovered?
A: We find references of the Trail from as far back as 1542 by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo. However, it is also known to be a Kumeyaay highway in use for thousands of years prior to European discovery.
Q: How long is the Trail?
A: The La Playa Trail is approximately 12 miles long.
Q: Where is the Trail?
A. The Trail starts at San Diego's
Ballast Point and follows the lee shore of Point Loma, continuing north along Rosecrans to Old Town, across the Mission Valley Nature Preserve to Friars Road and eastward to the Mission San Diego.
Q. How many Trail Markers are there and when were they put up?
A. There were six markers dedicated along the Trail in the 1930's. Of the six, two were lost and three were refurbished and remain original.
